This internship will be working exclusively with Groundwork, the workforce housing program within the Council. By promoting housing development near employment centers and essential services, we directly impact the lives of teachers, first responders, healthcare and manufacturing workers.
Core Responsibilities • Assist with community outreach initiatives through tabling at local events • Educate the public on regional housing issues including zoning, unplanned growth, gentle density and Groundwork projects. • Coordinate and staff tabling events at local venues to engage the public and share information about housing challenges and solutions • Set up and break down tabling booths, displays and engagement materials • Act as a representative of Groundwork at events, answering questions and fostering meaningful conversations with community members. • Opportunities for remote work in addition to on-site tabling including social media content creation, and blog post writing. • Other duties assigned
Qualifications: • Strong verbal communications skills, with a passion for community engagement and community planning. • Currently enrolled in college classes, preferably with a focus on urban planning, community building, marketing, communications or related fields • Ability to work weekends and possible evenings at local events • Ability to lift, pull, push, carry 20-30 lbs. • Have current valid driver’s license, auto insurance and a reliable vehicle to travel to events
Benefits: • $18 per hour for 8-10 hours per week (hours depend on what events are held each week) • Mileage reimbursement for travel • Gain practical experience/knowledge in urban planning, community outreach strategies, event planning, nonprofit organizations, communications, social media content production, summarizing articles and in other areas of expertise to broaden career experience.
Schedule: • Schedule is flexible and will differ depending on what events are taking place • Most events occur on weekends, or evenings • Internship will align with Groundworks fall outreach initiative from late August – end of Oct.
Expectations: • Groundwork will provide training on housing issues as part of the internship • This internship is without entitlement to a future paid job with Groundwork, and/or the Northwest Arkansas Council.
