Position Description:
Xtremis is seeking a Platform Engineer to drive our cloud and edge infrastructure forward. In this role, you'll manage our AWS-based cloud services, lead our transition to Kubernetes, and enhance our CI/CD pipelines. You'll be responsible for securing and optimizing our diverse edge device network, implementing robust monitoring solutions, and ensuring seamless connectivity across heterogeneous environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, containerization, and secure development practices, with the ability to navigate complex networking scenarios and implement identity management solutions. If you're passionate about building scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure that bridges cloud and edge computing, we want you on our team.
This position requires obtaining and maintaining a security clearance within 6 months of employment; must be a US citizen and meet eligibility requirements. Xtremis will initiate the clearance process for the selected candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Infrastructure Management
Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure (S3, EC2, CloudWatch, VPC, IAM, Cognito)
Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
Support on-premises deployments
Prepare for potential multi-cloud expansion (Azure, GCP)
Containerization and Orchestration
Lead migration to Kubernetes, leveraging Palantir Federal Cloud Services Platform
Optimize container deployment and management strategies
CI/CD and Development Support
Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI
Manage artifact registries for software packages and Docker images
Networking and Connectivity
Maintain and improve OpenVPN-based connectivity for edge devices
Support heterogeneous edge connectivity (Starlink, LTE, Ethernet, MANET)
Implement aggregated network logging
Monitoring and Observability
Enhance monitoring capabilities, transitioning from CloudWatch to a cloud-platform independent solution
Implement and maintain dashboards and automatic alerts for deployments of edge devices and related cloud services
Edge Device Management
Develop secure update mechanisms for edge devices (signed and verified images)
Create and maintain Ubuntu packages for edge devices
Manage package distribution via Sonatype Nexus
Security and Access Management
Implement and manage OAuth2-based authentication systems
Integrate with external SAML or OAuth2 providers as needed
Ensure secure practices across all systems and deployments
Continuous Improvement
Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies
Propose and implement improvements to the existing infrastructure and processes
Required Skills:
3+ years of experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
Strong knowledge of CI/CD practices and experience with GitLab CI
Solid understanding of network protocols and VPN technologies
Experience with monitoring and logging systems (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana)
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, or Ansible)
Security-focused mindset with knowledge of secure development practices
Solid background in shell scripting and intermediate-level Python programming
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with edge computing and diverse network environments
Familiarity with OAuth2, SAML, and identity management systems
Experience with multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP)
Proficiency in containerization technologies and Kubernetes
Knowledge of package management and software distribution
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
