Position Summary
The role of the Laboratory Assistant reports to the Director of Laboratory. This position is responsible for providing support for Medical Laboratory Technicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists and performs duties under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Essential Position Responsibilities
• Perform specimen processing functions for the Core Lab and/or Microbiology departments which includes centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens, gram staining and culture set-ups
• Load analyzers and perform maintenance
• Perform waived and rapid kit testing
• Assist with send out specimen processing
• Provide phlebotomy support, as needed
Qualifications
• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Licensure and Certifications: Laboratory Assistant and Phlebotomy Certification, preferred.
• Experience: 1-year medical laboratory assistant experience is preferred
Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of work time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 20% of work time standing and/or walking short distances while occasionally pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs.
