Position Summary

The role of the Referral Coordinator reports to the Clinic Manager. This position helps coordinate communication between patients, the clinic, and external specialists. This position is responsible for verifying insurance and obtaining prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, and communicating with all parties to ensure the patient receives timely and appropriate care.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process patient referrals for specialists and other healthcare services.
  • Confirm patient insurance coverage and secure necessary pre-authorizations.
  • Coordinate appointments for patients with specialists, including managing scheduling and follow-ups.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient and referral records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, doctors, nurses, insurance companies, and specialists.
  • Keep patients informed about their appointments, including dates, times, and special instructions.
  • Assist patients with potential barriers to care, such as transportation, and answer their questions.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Licensure and Certifications: N/A
  • Experience: Previous experience in a medical office setting, including knowledge of healthcare insurance protocols and referral processes, preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 40% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. and 60% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment.
