Position Summary
The role of the Unit Secretary - Acute reports to the RN, Clinical Coordinator, Unit Manager, and Director. This position is responsible for providing the nursing staff with clerical support. This position may retrieve, and transport select medications and blood products, including transportation of a sealed medication tray for the purpose of crash cart exchange. The unit secretary will not participate in the administration or distribution of medications directly to patients.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with visitors, patients, staff, and physicians
- Assists the physician and professional staff
- Enforce visitor policy
- Ensure rooms are restocked after patient discharge
- Promptly answers phone and returns messages in a timely manner
- Assembly and breakdown of charts
- Assist with keeping work area clean and sanitary
- Completes daily charges and reconciliation
- Order and stock supplies
- Transcribe orders
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Licensure and Certifications: BLS within 90 days of hire
- Experience: Previous secretarial experience, preferred. Previous experience operating standard office equipment, preferred.
Work Environment: This position spends 60% of work time sitting, with frequent standing and walking of short distances occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs., and occasional carry of up to 25 lbs, 40% of work time. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including well newborns, intermediate and intensive care newborns, antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum women from adolescents to adults. This position will be exposed to body fluids and communicable disease.
