Position Summary

The role of the Recreation Coordinator reports to the Center Manager. This position serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate, therapeutic recreational activities for all participants to include those with cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities. This position serves as a resource to aid with staff and volunteers within the Adult Day Health Center (ADHC), as appropriate.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement group and individual activities to improve or maintain the participants’ cognitive, physical, functional, social, psychosocial, spiritual, and artistic needs
  • Assist participants and caregivers by providing educational materials for activity modification or skill development, and supplies for in-home use, as needed
  • Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate recreational program plans to promote effectiveness according to client abilities and preferences within the ADHC daily flow of events
  • Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of activities on a timely basis
  • Organize community outings and special events at the ADHC, including participant transportation, entertainment, and catering
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Assess participant activity within nursing home and community-based living facilities to ensure proper placement; provide in-home visits, as necessary
  • Partner with leadership to maintain budget for recreation program
  • Complete all required documentation and assessments in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certifications: CPR, required. CNA or CTRS, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum one-year experience working with frail and elderly population, required. Experience with a dementia-based program, preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 70% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. this position will spend 30% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position serves a culturally and linguistically diverse patient population. This position may be exposed to communicable disease and bodily fluids. This position requires travel amongst participant facilities.
