Position Summary

Washington Regional Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Clinic, part of the Walker Heart Institute, is hiring an experienced Physician Assistant or APRN. The clinic’s four surgeons perform an average of 300 procedures each year, including a variety of robotic surgeries as well as endovascular, open vascular and thoracic cases. This role consists of approximately 60% of time spent in the OR with the remainder of time spent conducting hospital rounds, entering orders and assisting in the outpatient clinic. This opportunity offers an excellent work-life balance with five, 8-hour shifts per week. The position rotates call with three other PA/NPs for a total of seven to eight days per month, including one weekend on call every four weeks. This position reports to the Clinic Manager.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as first or second assist during adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries.
  • Endoscopic vein harvesting
  • Perform physical examinations of patients to evaluate health and diagnose illnesses.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests, such as x-rays and laboratory tests.
  • Determine, plan, and initiate appropriate treatment, and adjust treatment if necessary.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications.
  • Document medical information of patients and maintain electronic medical records.
  • Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families on presenting health problems, treatment plans, and home care, and encourage and promote preventative health care and positive health behaviors.
  • Request consultation or referral with other health care providers, such as physicians and clinics
  • Actively maintain knowledge of current medical research and trends, and support research projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program or physician assistant program
  • Licensure and Certifications: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License and CPR, required. National certification, required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in a previous clinical role, required.
