Position Summary
We are seeking a candidate with training and experience related to sterile processing equipment, including sterilizers and washers. Preferred model experience includes Steris’ Amsco 400, Amsco 5052, Century V-116, Reliance 1227, and V-Pro Max.The role of the Biomedical Equipment Technician III (BMET III) reports to the Biomed Manager. This position provides medical equipment services independent of technical supervision, including wholistic service for high-impact and/or complex medical equipment systems and/or specialty areas. This position duties include, but are not limited to, corrective and preventive maintenance of medical equipment, asset inventory management, vendor service management, and establish effective relationships with end users.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Perform Corrective Maintenance (CM) activities on medical equipment.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities on medical equipment.
- Perform Incoming Inspection (II) activities on medical equipment.
- Serve as the subject-matter-expert on high-impact and complex medical equipment systems and specialty areas.
- Coordinate with Information Security and Information Services teams to identify and resolve implementation and support issues.
- Build and maintain interpersonal relationships with both fellow support staff and end users.
- Provide guidance and supervision to junior technicians to complete CM, PM, or II activities on high-impact and complex medical equipment, as necessary.
- Provide mentorship to other Biomed technicians to assist in developing and strengthening team member knowledge and skills level.
- Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery.
- Discuss medical equipment status and functionality with clinicians and leadership.
- Advise administrative and clinical staff on the safe use and operation of high-impact and/or complex medical equipment.
- Assist with projects where assigned.
- Maintain an accurate and timely work order history.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the medical equipment asset inventory.
- Provide recommendations regarding the medical equipment asset inventory.
- Provide recommendations regarding opportunities to expand medical equipment optimization and innovation.
- Set and achieve educational and job proficiency goals.
- Participate in departmental on-call rotation to provide afterhours service.
- Adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), including all regulatory agency compliance standards.
- Adhere to all WRMS policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of WRMS to provide a positive view of WRMS services.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree or higher in a technical/electronics field, equivalent military training, or equivalent technical work experience required.
- Licensure and Certifications: Valid driver’s license required.
- Experience: 6+ years’ experience working with and serving as a subject matter expert for medical equipment in a Biomed Department or equivalent institution preferred.
- Demonstrates a strong technical understanding of computers and CMMS functionality.
- Demonstrates expert use of advanced and/or specialized test equipment.
- Knowledge of wired and wireless networks related to medical devices.
- Demonstrates an understanding of service routines for medical equipment with the ability to research and incorporate innovations that improve quality and efficiency.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
Work Environment: This position will spend 60% of time sitting while performing work on a computer or at a desk and 40% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs.
