Position Summary

The role of the Neuropsychometrician reports clinically to the provider and administratively to the Clinic Manager. The technician serves an integral role for the Memory Disorders Center by providing direct neuropsychological & psychological assessment to patients with suspected cognitive dysfunction. The technician works with a multi-disciplinary team of medical professionals including the supervising neuropsychologist, geriatricians, neurologists, social workers, nurse practitioners and nurses. The patient population can range in age from young adult to advanced geriatric. The majority of patients are at least 50 years of age, and therefore, an interest in working with senior adults is important.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Perform administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests
  • Report observational data to Neuropsychologist after assessment.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of test materials.
  • Maintain and clean patient area and testing materials after testing.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments with patients and care partners.
  • Inform patients about testing procedures prior to appointment.
  • Manage incoming referrals.
  • Request outside records from referring providers and facilities.
  • Update patient demographics upon receipt of new patient packet.
  • Prepare essential paperwork prior to appointment (e.g. ABNs).
  • Room patients using two identifiers.
  • Create packets for patients and/or care partners to take home after results with pertinent information regarding community services.
  • Maintain raw data files by placing in chart or other specified location.
  • Scan Neuropsychologist reports into EMR.
  • Provide Neuropsychologist reports to referring providers.
  • Phone call follow-ups with patients after results to aide in follow through with recommendations and charting notes regarding those calls.
  • Perform administrative tasks as necessary utilizing appropriate office materials and equipment.
  • Attend annual education required to maintain licensure.
  • Attend monthly meetings with social workers and the Schmieding Center to stay informed about community services.

Qualifications

  • Education: bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in Psychology
  • Requirements: Receive a passing grade in college courses in abnormal psychology, personality, psychological statistics, and psychological testing/tests and measurement is required. If a candidate lacks one of these classes, there is a possibility that the candidate may complete the course during the training period for this job (i.e., within the first 90 days of employment).
  • Experience: Previous experience in health care setting preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will spend 20% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 20 lbs.
