SUMMARY

The role of the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Tech reports to the CV Ultrasound Team Lead. This position is responsible for direct care of patients having cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures. The CV ultrasound tech performs a variety of technical functions that require reasonable independent judgment under minimal to no direct supervision. This position has exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, radiation, and chemicals common to an ultrasound lab and inpatient nursing areas. This position spends the minority of the time standing and walking (less than 50% of work time). Frequent lifting, pushing/pulling and carrying of up to 100 lbs. is required when positioning patients and equipment (up to 30% of work time). This position serves a variety of age groups: Adults (up to 30% of the time), geriatrics (60%), pediatrics (8%) and neonates (2%).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to work extended hours and days is required as well as ability to assist physician with venous procedures.
  • Assists with vascular studies within a CV Ultrasound department.
  • Trains other sonographers in vascular studies within the CV Ultrasound department.
  • Provides needed assistance to other coworkers to ensure adequate patient care.
  • Assists in achieving quality patient care, national patient safety goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including: patients, patient families, physicians, coworkers, volunteers, community partners, and vendors.
  • Strives to improve and facilitate patient care and satisfaction supported with evidenced based practices.
  • Establishes effective teamwork in daily activities.
  • Uses good problem-solving techniques, shows initiative, and finds creative ways to overcome challenges.
  • Understands the age-specific needs, including care, communication, and safety needs for the patient population served.
  • Efficiently and effectively coordinates admission care and direction of patient care for elective admission patients with physicians, the scheduling departments, and all ancillary departments.
  • Strives to improve and facilitate patient care and satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of an accredited sonography program
  • Licensure and Certifications: ARDMS or CCI vascular registry is preferred. If registry eligible, must obtain within 6 months date of hire. If employee is not registered, competency must be demonstrated and approved by the Medical Director of Cardiology, Imaging, or related specialty. BLS/ CPR required.
  • Experience: Knowledge of vascular ultrasound practices generally associated with a CV ultrasound lab. 1 year of vascular ultrasound experience preferred.
