Description

Position Summary

The role of the registered nurse reports to the ACU Manager. This position is responsible for direct care of outpatients who are having a procedure in the cardiac cath lab, electrophysiology lab, interventional radiology, neuro IR, radiology, and infusion services. The RN assists in the orientation of new staff and clinical supervision of nursing students. This position has exposure to blood and bodily fluids and other communicable disease. The RN may be required to function as the charge nurse. Most of the time is spent standing and/or walking for short distances (up to 70% of work time), with frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 100 lbs. (up to 30% of work time), and occasional carrying of up to 25 lbs. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure care to patients with procedures in the cardiac cath lab, electrophysiology lab, interventional radiology, neuro IR, radiology, and infusion services.
  • Efficiently complete admission process for patients including: medical history, assessment, IV start, medication reconciliation, procedure preparation, and other nursing duties.
  • Cares for and monitors patients in the post-procedure area, including discharge instruction and care.
  • Provides care to the patient requiring infusion.
  • Provides needed assistance to other coworkers to ensure adequate patient care.
  • Assists in achieving quality patient care, national patient safety goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including: patients, patient families, physicians, coworkers, volunteers, community partners, and vendors.
  • Strives to improve and facilitate patient care and satisfaction supported with evidenced based practices.
  • Establishes effective teamwork in daily activities.
  • Uses good problem-solving techniques, shows initiative, and finds creative ways to overcome challenges.
  • Understands the age-specific needs, including care, communication, and safety needs for the patient population served.
  • Efficiently and effectively coordinates admission care and direction of patient care for elective admission patients with physicians, the scheduling departments, and all ancillary departments.

Qualifications

  • Education: must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensure and Certifications: Arkansas RN license or a state that has enacted the RN NLC. BLS, ACLS (within 3 months), and PALS (obtained within 6 months) of hire or transfer to department. Annual dysrhythmia must be completed.
  • Experience: 1-year RN experience preferred
