Description

Position Summary

The role of the Surgical Services Unit Manager reports to the Surgical Services Operations Director. This position is responsible for maintaining 24-hour responsibility for all aspect of the department. The manager is responsible for managing, directing, and planning clinical functions of delivery of care within the units. The manager supervises all nursing staff, including clinical RNs, LPNs, scrub technologists, surgical attendants, ACNAs, and unit secretaries while functioning as a member of the management team.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure all areas of the department meet standards established by Washington Regional and all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Provide leadership and direction in accordance with organization goals and objectives
  • Promote team building, trust, and respect in every aspect of the organization
  • Establish education and training programs to support staff development and promote a multifunctional team
  • Maintain culture of safety and recommend workflow changes, as appropriate
  • Ensure that all Washington Regional policies and procedures are effectively communicated to and implemented by all staff
  • Participate in recruitment efforts including interviewing, hiring, and handling complex personnel issues
  • Provide performance optimization strategies as it relates to patient satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Licensure and Certifications: Registered Nurse Licensure and CPR, required. ACLS and PALS, required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in a surgical services area, required. Previous supervisory or management experience, preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 60% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 40% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs.
