Description

Position Summary

The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)/Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) reports to the Clinical Outcomes Manager with additional accountability to nursing department directors. This position will assist with a variety of quality improvement activities across the medical center, with particular focus in Critical Care. This position will be responsible for data collection, evaluation, process improvement planning, and performance evaluation. In addition, the CNS/CNL will interact frequently with staff in clinical departments to support evidence-based, professional nursing practice.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of current research and evidence-based practice guidelines and implementation and optimization in the acute care setting
  • Order set development and implementation
  • Develop and implement performance improvement plans based on identified areas for improvement in conjunction with department leaders
  • Serve as a clinical expert and liaison with Clinical Informatics team
  • Facilitate staff education on quality initiatives and implementation of new practices and monitor for improvement
  • Actively participate in ongoing and frequent rounding on nursing units to support evidence-based practice and observe clinical outcomes
  • Complete data collection and analysis evaluating clinical outcomes across key initiatives

Qualifications

  • Education: Masters level nursing degree through an accredited nursing program
  • Licensure and Certifications: Registered Nurse license and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License (if CNS)
  • Experience: Must have 2 years of clinical experience in acute care setting, preferably in Critical Care

Work Environment: This position will spend 50% of work time standing and/or walking while occasionally pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position will spend 50% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will be exposed to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
