Description

Position Summary

The Cardiovascular Operating Room - Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Assistant Director of Surgical Services. Cardiovascular operating room nurses are valuable members of the surgical services and operating room teams. CVOR nurses are responsible for providing care for cardiovascular patients before, during and following surgical procedures.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room and ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are properly sterilized and available.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and other members of the surgical team to coordinate patient care and develop a team-based approach to care
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications and provide sterile instruments and supplies to the staff member or surgeon as needed.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs, maintain a sterile field and handle specialized equipment related to cardiovascular procedures
  • Nursing staff supports patient care in all phases including pre-induction, perioperative, intraoperative and post-anesthesia.
  • Assist with patient positioning, wound closure and post-operative care, ensuring patients are stable and comfortable.
  • Ensure accurate records and facilitate continuity of care
  • Provide patient education and support, providing pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and addressing patient and family concerns.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and promoting safe and effective patient care in the cardiovascular operating room.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Licensure and Certifications: Arkansas RN license & CPR, required. ACLS required within 90 days.
  • Experience: Previous operating room nursing experience required. Previous cardiovascular experience or CVOR experience, preferred.

Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of the time walking and/or standing while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position will spend 20% of the time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will be exposed to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and radiation. This position serves a cultural and linguistically diverse patient population.
