Position Summary
This position is responsible for measuring/recording patients vital signs, updating charts, prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments, obtain consents, collect blood & urine samples from patients and perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing, assist physician with in-office procedures, preauthorize services with insurance companies, arrange and schedule referrals to other providers/facilities while coordinating with insurance requirements if applicable, maintain various medical logs according to policy/procedures set forth within the clinic, inventory and requisition supplies and instruments, clean and sterilize instruments using germicides, sterilizers or autoclave, set-up equipment and prepare medical treatment rooms, communicate care needs/services with the patient and/or their representative, answer patients’ calls and determine how to assist them, confer with other health-care team members as necessary, work as part of a health care team to assess patients needs, plan and modify care and implement interventions. The incumbent serves as the back up to the scribe/medical coordinator. This position must be able to prioritize clinic/patients needs and assist in other areas as requested. This position works independently and has exposure to communicable disease and body fluids. This position spends the majority of time standing (up to 60% of work time) with frequent walking of short distances (up to 20% of work times.)
Licenses/Certifications Required Medical Assistant Certification preferred; CPR
\nSpecific Educational and Skill Competencies Required The ability to provide direct patient care as usually demonstrated by completion of high school studies and after proper training. This position must have effective communication skills with patients, co-workers, supervisor and physicians. Must have ability to operate standard office equipment. Computer skills for position are essential. Familiarity with medical terminology is required.
