Lab Coordinator - Laboratory

Washington Regional Medical System (the “System”) is our region’s only locally governed, community-owned, not-for-profit healthcare system. POSITION SUMMARY 

\n

This position is responsible for providing clerical & clinical support to the laboratory department including: answering phones, receiving specimens and labeling blood and other specimens, providing results, coordinating phlebotomy collection orders, monitoring pending specimen logs, registering patients and ordering tests when required, and communicating test status. This position works with laboratory staff, patients, clinical, nursing and medical staff to ensure proper specimen collection and testing is performed. This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable disease. Majority of time is spent sitting (up to 80 % of work time) and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. is required. If the processor is a qualified phlebotomist, blood specimen collection is also required.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

\n

Good communication skills as usually associated with the completion of high school studies (or GED). Ability to operate standard office equipment including: multiple phone lines, computer, fax machine and copier as usually demonstrated by one year of medical office experience and/or training. Visual acuity for details is required. Auditory acuity is required for communication via phone. If the coordinator is a qualified phlebotomist, additional physical and skill requirements are required.
