What you'll do...
Role summary:As a Distinguished Software Engineer – Mobile & AI Experiences, you will define the architecture powering Walmart’s next generation of AI-driven experiences across iOS and Android. You’ll provide system-level leadership spanning native clients, experience services, APIs, and AI platform integrations. Operating across multiple platforms and teams, you’ll establish scalable architecture, reliability frameworks, and engineering standards that enable Walmart to rapidly deliver intelligent experiences to millions of customers. You’ll bridge long-term AI and mobile strategy with execution, while mentoring Principal and Staff engineers and influencing technical direction across the organization.

Our team builds AI-powered shopping experiences that make shopping at Walmart more intuitive, personalized, and actionable. Our work spans native iOS and Android experiences, experience services, AI orchestration, and commerce platforms. We’re focused on making AI useful throughout the shopping journey—from discovery and decision-making to planning, purchasing, and agentic actions. We operate at the intersection of mobile, AI, and commerce, creating reusable platforms and architectural foundations that enable teams to deliver innovative AI experiences reliably and rapidly at Walmart scale.
What you'll do:
- Own architecture across iOS, Android, experience services, APIs, and AI integrations.
- Define scalable patterns for AI-native, dynamic, multimodal, and agentic mobile experiences.
- Establish architecture and standards across Swift/SwiftUI, Kotlin/Compose, and supporting backend services.
- Drive reliability, performance, observability, security, and scalability across the end-to-end experience stack.
- Translate long-term product and AI strategy into durable technical architecture and execution.
- Lead complex initiatives spanning mobile, backend, AI/ML, and platform teams.
- Identify and resolve systemic architectural constraints across multiple platforms.
- Mentor Principal and Staff engineers and influence engineering strategy across the organization.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience architecting large-scale native iOS and Android applications and supporting distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in Swift/SwiftUI and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, with strong cross-platform architectural depth.
- Strong backend and distributed-systems expertise, including APIs, service architecture, real-time systems, and cloud platforms.
- Proven experience defining architecture spanning client, backend, and platform boundaries.
- Deep understanding of mobile performance, reliability, application lifecycle, networking, and observability.
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, streaming, multimodal, or agentic systems is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated technical influence across multiple organizations and platforms.
- Track record of mentoring Principal and Staff engineers.

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas US-10929: The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
