What you'll do...
Role summary:As a Principal Software Engineer – Mobile, you will shape the next generation of AI-powered shopping experiences across Walmart’s iOS and Android apps. You’ll define architecture, establish reusable mobile patterns, and lead complex initiatives that bring Generative AI into shopping journeys used by millions of customers. Working at the intersection of native mobile, AI, and commerce, you’ll partner across engineering, product, design, data science, and AI platform teams to turn rapidly evolving AI capabilities into intuitive, performant, and reliable customer experiences at Walmart scale.

Our team builds AI-powered shopping experiences that make shopping at Walmart more intuitive, personalized, and actionable. We’re focused on making AI useful throughout the shopping journey—from discovery and decision-making to planning, purchasing, and completing actions for customers. We operate at the intersection of AI, mobile, and commerce, combining the speed and experimentation of an AI organization with the scale and engineering challenges of one of the world’s largest consumer platforms.
What you'll do:
- Define architecture for AI-powered experiences across Walmart’s iOS and Android apps.
- Build AI-native patterns spanning conversational, generative UI, multimodal, and agentic experiences.
- Create reusable mobile frameworks that enable AI across the shopping journey.
- Solve challenges involving streaming, dynamic UI, context, performance, reliability, and application lifecycle.
- Drive architecture across Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose.
- Partner across mobile, AI/ML, backend, data science, product, and design.
- Lead complex cross-team initiatives and architecture reviews.
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization.
What you'll bring:
- Deep experience building large-scale native iOS and/or Android applications.
- Expertise in Swift/SwiftUI and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose and modern mobile architecture.
- Track record of designing reusable platforms, frameworks, or capabilities used across teams.
- Experience defining technical strategy and leading complex, cross-organizational initiatives.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, performance, reliability, and mobile/backend architecture.
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, conversational, multimodal, or agentic systems is highly desirable.
- Strong product instincts and ability to translate emerging technology into intuitive experiences.
- Proven technical leadership, influence, and mentorship at scale.

Sunnyvale, California US-11656: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00
BENTONVILLE, Arkansas US-10929: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
