Position Summary...
The Director, Clean Energy Origination leads Walmart’s global strategy to originate, structure, and execute long-term energy partnerships that deliver measurable cost, risk, and sustainability outcomes. This leader builds a scalable pipeline of agreements and partnerships (e.g., PPAs, green tariffs, community solar, and similar structures) and partners across Finance, Legal, Sustainability and Operations to deliver value.This role serves as Walmart's commercial leader for grid-connected energy origination and is responsible for building and leading a high-performing team, sourcing and executing long-term energy partnerships. The role also engages external stakeholders—including utilities, developers, investors, and policymakers—to expand access to affordable, reliable, lower-carbon energy.

Walmart’s Energy Team drives progress toward a clean, affordable, and reliable energy future through strategic offsite investments. The Offsite Energy Investment Team leads large-scale, grid-connected clean energy projects by collaborating with developers, utilities, policymakers, and internal partners. This team enhances grid resilience, expands clean energy capacity, and manages long-term energy costs. Focused on strategic partnerships, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making, the team supports sustainable energy solutions that deliver value to the business and communities while advancing Walmart’s clean energy goals.
What you'll do...
- Build and execute a global origination strategy for long-term commercial agreements and strategic partnerships that support enterprise cost, resilience, and decarbonization goals.
- Source and evaluate opportunities using financial and scenario analysis, and risk assessment (market, credit, regulatory, technology, and execution risk).
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of energy procurement and partnership opportunities across utilities, developers, infrastructure providers, and emerging energy technologies.
- Structure and negotiate complex deals (multi-party, long-duration contracts) in partnership with Legal/Finance—balancing economics, risk allocation, and performance guarantees.
- Develop and execute long-term commercial partnerships supporting large-scale energy projects
- Lead cross-functional execution from diligence through approvals, contracting, and ongoing performance management.
- Develop strategic external relationships with counterparties (developers, utilities, financiers, advisors) to expand pipeline and improve terms.
- Influence market-enabling conditions through policy/regulatory engagement and industry collaboration.
- Build and lead a high-performing team, setting clear priorities, coaching talent, and scaling repeatable processes.
What you'll bring:
- 8+ years in deal origination, energy procurement, project development, project finance, corporate development, strategic partnerships, or related commercial roles.
- Track record negotiating and closing long-term, high-value commercial agreements (energy, infrastructure, telecom, logistics, real estate, data centers, utilities, or other regulated/asset-heavy sectors).
- Demonstrated ability to originate opportunities, develop commercial relationships, and create transaction pipelines in competitive markets.
- Strong capability in financial analysis and commercial decision-making (NPV/IRR, contract economics, credit, and risk frameworks).
- Experience operating in regulated and/or policy-influenced environments (utilities, transportation, healthcare, etc.).
- Demonstrated people leadership and ability to build teams, culture, and stakeholder alignment.
- Executive-level communication skills—able to translate technical and financial complexity into clear decisions.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
