Role summary:The (USA) Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration across multiple teams. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance of distributed systems. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable solutions. The Walmart Global Tech Fintech team focuses on delivering robust service operations and technology solutions supporting Finance, People, and Associate Digital Experience. The team drives innovation through cloud-native architecture, AI integration, and scalable platform engineering. It emphasizes technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement to enable Walmart’s global enterprise to operate efficiently and securely. Members engage with cross-functional partners to translate business needs into actionable solutions, ensuring high-quality delivery and long-term platform evolution. The team fosters a culture of mentorship, knowledge sharing, and strategic technical leadership to advance Walmart’s mission of smart spending and trusted digital experiences.
What you'll do:
- Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and enterprise data platform frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities.
- Architect and integrate AI-enhanced applications using cloud-native principles and model-driven design to support millions of users.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural decisions and promoting engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
- Maintain architectural documentation and ensure quality standards throughout project execution.
- Foster continuous improvement by adopting new technologies and optimizing processes.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
- Strong proficiency in technical solution design, model-driven design, and cloud computing architecture.
- Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycles, including CI/CD, testing, and observability.
- Skilled in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions to promote maintainability and interoperability.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional stakeholders to define technical requirements and metrics.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
