Role Summary
The Group Director, Technology Operations, leads a portfolio of strategic store technology initiatives that help Walmart associates work more efficiently, improve inventory accuracy, and deliver a better customer experience. This leader drives the execution of innovative solutions that bring Walmart's value proposition to life—from AI-powered inventory visibility and digital shelf technology to associate tools, location services, and next-generation store applications.

This role partners closely with product, engineering, store operations, and executive leadership to identify opportunities where technology can create measurable business value. The ideal candidate combines strong operational and financial discipline with the ability to lead through influence, build high-performing teams, and accelerate the adoption of technology at scale.

Our team builds and delivers technology that enables Walmart stores to operate more effectively and serve customers better. We focus on creating tools and experiences that help associates work faster, make better decisions, improve product availability, and reduce unnecessary operational complexity.

From modernizing associate applications and deploying digital shelf labels to leveraging RFID, location technologies, and computer vision, we are transforming how stores manage inventory, fulfill customer orders, and execute daily operations. Our work directly supports Walmart's commitment to lowering costs, increasing productivity, and creating a seamless customer experience.

What you'll do...

  • Lead a portfolio of high-impact store technology initiatives that improve associate productivity, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive execution across multiple programs, ensuring alignment with business priorities, technology strategy, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and store operations teams to identify opportunities where technology can simplify processes, eliminate waste, and create value.
  • Oversee large-scale deployments and modernization efforts, including associate tools, digital shelf labels, location-based technologies, and emerging store capabilities.
  • Champion innovation and help scale next-generation solutions, including AI and computer vision technologies that provide real-time operational insights.
  • Establish program goals, key milestones, and success metrics while proactively managing risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Manage financial planning, investment decisions, and resource allocation across a diverse portfolio of initiatives.
  • Build alignment across senior leaders and cross-functional teams, communicating strategy, progress, and business impact effectively.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement while developing future leaders across the organization.

  • Financial acumen and investment planning experience, including budget management, prioritization, and business case development.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution while managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
  • Strong communication and influence skills, including experience working with senior executives and cross-functional leadership teams.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, computer vision, location services, automation, or digital operations technologies is highly desirable.
  • A forward-thinking mindset with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and solving complex operational challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting retail, supply chain, store operations, logistics, or large-scale field operations environments.
  • Experience leading technology modernization or enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with technologies that support inventory management, fulfillment, workforce productivity, or in-store operations.

The annual salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $320,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
