If so, you may be an ideal candidate for the Senior Software Engineer role at Walmart Global Tech. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Global Data Foundation team, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining end-to-end software solutions that enhance platform reliability, scalability, and overall business value. You will design and implement distributed systems and services, make sound architectural decisions, and collaborate with product and platform teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality software solutions. This role spans the full stack—from backend services built with Java, Scala, or Python, to cloud-native infrastructure on GCP or Azure—and includes integration with internal platforms such as WCNP, Kafka, and Cassandra. In this role, you will leverage your broad engineering expertise to ensure systems are performant, secure, and aligned with Walmart’s business goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners—including Product Managers, Data Engineers, and SREs—to deliver features efficiently while mentoring peers and raising team-wide engineering standards. You will also champion best practices in system design, code quality, testing, observability, and CI/CD, while staying current with evolving industry trends and technologies. About the Customer Area Customer Area Tech focuses on delivering world-class products, driving policy compliance, and building platforms that strengthen customer trust. We implement Global Privacy Technology solutions, analyze customer data, and generate insights that improve retail experiences at scale. What You Will Do- Architect, design, and implement scalable software systems and services using modern languages and frameworks.
- Develop robust backend APIs and microservices with a strong focus on reliability, security, and performance.
- Integrate systems with internal and external services to ensure seamless data flow, fault tolerance, and high availability.
- Write comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and system reliability.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and production monitoring and observability.
- Ensure compliance with Walmart’s Solution Security Plan (SSP), data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architectural discussions while upholding high engineering standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in software engineering, security, and DevOps.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying relevant innovations to solve business challenges.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with 5–7 years of experience building large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in collaborative, multi-team environments.
- Passion for continuous learning, adopting new technologies, and maintaining high standards for code quality and system reliability.
- Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with experience in microservices, REST API development, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure, or AWS, including services like Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and BigQuery.
- Experience with databases including BigQuery, relational SQL, NoSQL, and distributed SQL query engines such as Presto, along with modern data modeling practices.
- Strong background in big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Apache Spark) and data lake architectures.
- Experience with event-streaming and messaging technologies such as Kafka for building scalable, event-driven systems.
- Hands-on experience with workload automation and orchestration tools such as Automic and Apache Airflow for managing complex workflows and batch processes.
- Proficiency in containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
- Experience with unit, functional, and integration testing using frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, and Jest, along with code quality tools like Sonar.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and Dynatrace for proactive observability and debugging.
- Required proficiency in Elasticsearch and Kibana for search, analytics, and data visualization.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI coding agents and developer assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools) to accelerate development velocity, improve code quality, and shorten iteration cycles.
- Experience designing and integrating AI-powered agentic systems, including multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, and LLM API integrations (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude) using frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Sunnyvale, California US-11657: The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
