Principal Product Manager – New Store Site Selection (Geospatial Platforms)Position Summary
Walmart is seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the strategy, development, and evolution of our geospatial capabilities that are the foundation of new asset growth (new stores & clubs), a critical capability that drives enterprise growth across U.S., Sam’s Club, and International markets. This role sits within the Global Realty product organization and is responsible for transforming how Walmart identifies, evaluates, and prioritizes new store locations using advanced geospatial analytics, data science, and AI-driven decisioning.
As Walmart accelerates growth, the complexity of site selection continues to grow—requiring integration of customer demand signals, trade area dynamics, competitive intelligence, and financial modeling. This role will define and deliver a modern, scalable platform that enables real estate managers to make faster, more accurate, and more confident location decisions.
You will partner cross-functionally with Realty teams, Market Strategy, Finance, Data Science, Engineering, and Executive Leadership to modernize best-in-class geospatial products and experiences using industry standard geospatial products such as ESRI (ArcGIS), Carto, etc. and modern cloud data platforms. This is a high-impact role with direct influence on Walmart’s physical footprint and long-term growth strategy.
The Role at a Glance
This role ensures Walmart is selecting the right locations, in the right markets, at the right time by improving:
- Accuracy and speed of site selection decisions through advanced geospatial analytics
- Standardization and scalability of trade area modeling and market evaluation
- Integration of predictive analytics and AI into real estate decision workflows
- Visibility into market opportunities, cannibalization risks, and financial outcomes
- Adoption of modern tools that empower teams to make data-driven, self-service decisions
What You Will Do
Customer & Problem Understanding
Develop deep expertise in site selection by combining business, financial, and geospatial insights to identify high-value growth opportunities and constraints. Conduct structured discovery with Realty and Strategy teams to understand decision workflows, pain points, and unmet needs. Use tools such as ESRI and Carto to analyze trade areas, customer behavior, demographics, and competitive landscapes. Translate insights into clear, measurable problem statements aligned to enterprise growth and ROI objectives. Drive alignment through data-driven insights, experimentation, and validated hypotheses.
Product Vision & Strategy
Define and own the product vision for Walmart’s geospatial site selection ecosystem, ensuring alignment to long-term real estate and enterprise growth strategy. Translate vision into a clear, actionable roadmap that balances impact, risk, and scalability. Evaluate build vs. buy vs. partner decisions across geospatial tools, data providers, and modeling capabilities. Align stakeholders across Realty and the Enterprise on strategic priorities, success metrics, and platform direction.
Product Lifecycle Management
Lead end-to-end product execution across the full lifecycle—from discovery and ideation through launch and optimization. Partner with Engineering and Data Science to deliver scalable geospatial solutions that improve decision accuracy and reduce cycle time. Manage trade-offs across model sophistication, usability, cost, and time-to-value. Ensure successful adoption by real estate teams and drive continuous improvement through telemetry, feedback loops, and performance tracking tied to business outcomes.
Data & AI
Leverage strong understanding of geospatial data, analytics pipelines, and machine learning models to enhance site selection capabilities. Partner with Data Science to develop and refine models for trade area definition, competition & cannibalization analysis, and site scoring. Translate complex analytical outputs into intuitive tools and actionable insights for business users. Use experimentation and data analysis to continuously improve model performance and decision quality.
Walmart Leadership Expectations
Demonstrate leadership through influence, ownership, and strong judgment in a highly cross-functional environment. Communicate complex technical and spatial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including senior leadership. Build trust and alignment across Realty, Product, Engineering, and Strategy teams.
