Job Description: This position is responsible for supporting the safety and security of fleet operations across multiple transportation offices within a region. This role involves managing risks, safeguarding people and assets, and ensuring compliance with transportation safety and environmental regulations. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, implementing safety protocols, driving continuous improvement methodologies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.

Essential Functions:

Promotes and supports compliance with company policies, mission, and values, applicable state and local laws and regulations in transportation safety management, partnering with internal and external subject matter experts to guide the development of transportation safety regulatory compliance programs and operating procedures. Leads and supports training; implements safety protocols and continuous improvement methodologies to mitigate risk; communicates with regional teams to provide direction on risk mitigation and compliance initiatives; establishes training programs to ensure high-risk areas are addressed in policies and procedures; revises and implements policies, procedures, and metrics for risk mitigation and accident prevention in accordance with changes in government regulations and corporate policies; and builds relationships and collaborates with governing authorities, including local, state, and federal agencies to interpret regulatory requirements and ensure they are understood, communicated, and implemented to support operations in achieving organizational safety goals of zero loss.

Supports the execution business objectives, safety needs, and driver risks; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing comprehensive safety strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs, accident and injury data, and risk exposure, incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; promoting a culture of safety; managing risks, safeguarding people and assets; ensuring compliance with safety and transportation regulations; and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.

Supports the regional collision and injury investigation subrogation processes, ensuring comprehensive gathering, presentation, and preservation of all relevant evidence and information to reduce financial impact to the company, using data collection modes, data analytics, visualization tools, digital applications, technology trends, data governance, and data science technologies.

Provides support to operational leaders actively involved in collision and injury response by providing coverage support for accident and injury response (24/7/365). Works with all regulatory on-scene agencies, including law enforcement, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazmat officials, and the fire department. Manages risks, safeguards people and assets, and ensures compliance with transportation safety and environmental regulations.

Supports the execution and development of accident and injury prevention programs by designing policies, procedures, continuous improvement programs, and metrics, implementing safety technologies. Supports operational driver safety and equipment audits; analyzes accident and injury costs to ensure adequate safety programs are in place to reduce risk, cost, and exposure to the company. Supports regional safety programs for fleet drivers and transportation maintenance garages by ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration programs; implementing and auditing procedures to improve safety metrics by reducing preventable accidents and injuries, and reducing overall costs and ensuring compliance; creating and measuring operational safety metrics; providing guidance on correction of errors; and conducting follow-up with management to ensure compliance.

Evaluates safety programs for fleet drivers and transportation maintenance garages by ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration programs; implementing and auditing procedures to improve safety metrics by reducing preventable accidents and injuries, and reducing overall costs; creating and measuring operational safety metrics; providing guidance on correction of errors; conducting follow-up with management to ensure compliance; managing training programs to address high-risk areas in policies and procedures; updating Walmart safety procedures based on changes in government regulations; establishing relationships with governing authorities to interpret requirements and ensuring they are understood, communicated, and implemented to support operations; evaluating safety risks using knowledge of department goals, operational issues, and regulatory requirements; seeking advice when assigned goals conflict with departmental or overall company goals; documenting regulatory and reporting requirements; understanding the significance of and applying Standard Operation Procedure information; identifying and acting on safety hazards and anomalies during operational processes; and analyzing situations or conditions that may have regulatory ramifications.

Leverages data analysis tools to explore complex data, develop and test hypotheses, use data to influence strategic work, and build and present insights. Identifies, implements, and drives technology change within the scope of work. Uses visualization tools to represent data and create coherent stories to influence decisions.

Participates in strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety management, business administration or related field and 3 years’ experience in fleet safety or related area OR 5 years’ experience in fleet safety (Traffic Safety; Transit Safety; Environmental Health and Safety within Supply Chain, Retail) or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
2 years’ experience in occupational safety management, business administration or related field or 1 or more Degreed Certifications (Associate Safety Professional; Certified Safety Professional; Graduate Safety Practitioner) or Non-degreed certifications (Safety Management Specialist; Safety Trained Supervisor; North American Transportation Management Institute Certified Director of Safety; North American Transportation Management Institute Certified Safety Supervisor; Safety Management Specialist; Certified Safety Manager; Safety Director; Licensed Safety Professional; Certified Safety and Health Manager. 2 years’ experience in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, OneDrive, Communication, Project Management, Data Analysis, Business Operations. 2 years’ experience leading cross-functional task forces or projects. The annual salary range for this position is $104,000.00 - $156,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
