Position Summary...
Walmart US is transforming how Merchants work—and we’re looking for a strategic, analytically rigorous Senior Manager to help define what gets automated next. This role sits at the heart of Wally’s evolution from insight generation to action orchestration. You will lead business discovery for agentic workflows, identifying high-value opportunities, quantifying impact, and shaping how decisions transition from human-led to fully or partially automated execution.
You’ll partner across merchandising, product, engineering, and data science to ensure we are prioritizing the right actions, at the right time, with the right level of autonomy.
If you’re passionate about connecting analytics to real business outcomes—and shaping the future of AI-driven merchandising—this role is for you.
What you'll do...
- Lead action discovery – Identify and decompose high-value merchandising workflows (pricing, assortment, inventory, content, tickets) into candidate actions for Wally automation
- Quantify value – Build robust, standardized frameworks to estimate business impact (e.g., hours saved, sales lift, cost reduction) to inform roadmap prioritization
- Define automation pathways – Determine when workflows should be fully automated vs human-in-the-loop, based on risk, confidence, and business criticality
- Drive Action Center integration – Translate discovered opportunities into prioritized, structured inputs for Action Center and next-best-action systems
- Establish prioritization rigor – Create consistent scoring models that enable tradeoff decisions across domains and use cases
- Partner cross-functionally – Work with product, engineering, and domain teams to ensure discoveries translate into scalable, production-ready solutions
- Close the loop – Track realized vs estimated value and refine prioritization models over time
- 6–10+ years in analytics, strategy, consulting, or data science roles
- Experience in retail, merchandising, or operational analytics strongly preferred
- Proven ability to translate business problems into analytical frameworks and action systems
- Strong experience with value modeling, experimentation, or business case development
- Familiarity with AI/ML or LLM-driven systems, especially in workflow automation contexts
- Advanced SQL and/or Python skills
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills
- You think beyond dashboards—focusing on decisions, actions, and outcomes, not just insights
- You can break down ambiguous merchandising problems into structured, automatable workflows
- You are fluent in value quantification (time savings, revenue lift, margin impact) and use it to drive prioritization
- You understand the tradeoffs between fully automated vs human-in-the-loop systems
- You can evaluate data readiness, decision complexity, and risk to determine automation feasibility
- You are equally comfortable with SQL/data analysis and executive storytelling
- You push for clarity in messy environments and influence cross-functional partners without authority
