SummaryAs a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and build Android experiences that help customers shop more easily across channels. This role is Android-first, with close collaboration across the broader mobile stack, backend services, product, and design to deliver reliable, scalable, and intuitive experiences for millions of Walmart customers.
About Team: Pre-Purchase Experiences
Our team builds and delivers next-generation Quick Service Retail (QSR) and product customization capabilities, enabling customers to seamlessly personalize items, order across 1P and 3P stores, and batch purchases into a single trip. We focus on high-impact customer journeys that connect discovery, navigation, engagement, and checkout-related experiences. Walmart is investing in modern mobile technology and platform capabilities, and we are looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex product and engineering problems at scale.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications and features using Kotlin and modern Android architecture patterns.
- Build high-quality customer experiences for omnichannel journeys, including features that improve navigation, discovery, engagement, and convenience.
- Partner with engineers across Android, iOS, backend, web, product, UX, and design to deliver consistent end-to-end mobile experiences.
- Write reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code, and improve app stability through strong unit, functional, and integration test coverage.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions that improve performance, scalability, and developer productivity.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, performance issues, and production incidents with a focus on quality and customer impact.
- Contribute to CI/CD, release readiness, code reviews, and engineering best practices to support smooth and dependable delivery.
- Mentor other engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Document technical designs, implementation details, and operational considerations to support long-term maintainability.
- Evaluate tools, frameworks, and platform improvements that strengthen Walmart's Android and mobile engineering ecosystem.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including strong hands-on experience building Android applications in Kotlin.
- Experience developing consumer-facing mobile products, ideally in ecommerce, retail, or other high-scale product environments.
- Strong knowledge of the Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, application lifecycle, networking, concurrency, local storage, and performance optimization.
- Experience with modern Android development patterns such as MVVM or Clean Architecture, and familiarity with Jetpack Compose.
- Experience integrating mobile applications with REST and GraphQL APIs and collaborating effectively with backend service teams.
- Solid testing and debugging skills, including unit testing, functional testing, and root-cause analysis for production issues.
- Familiarity with build and delivery tooling such as Gradle, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Jira, and Confluence.
- Ability to translate product requirements and UX designs into polished, reliable, customer-ready mobile experiences.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, agile team environment.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
