Position Summary...
The Director, Energy Portfolio Management will advance Walmart’s mission of delivering affordable, reliable, and clean energy. This leader will own enterprise strategy for managing electricity and natural gas spend across deregulated U.S. markets, integrating competitive supply, clean energy procurement, onsite generation, battery storage, and structured market participation into a unified cost and risk framework.The role also builds scalable organizational capability by embedding governance, advanced analytics, and market sophistication. With influence over significant energy spend, this high-impact leader will shape Walmart’s long-term cost structure, strengthen resiliency, and accelerate the growth and maturity of the Walmart Energy organization.

The Walmart Energy team leads the company’s efforts in managing energy consumption across a vast network of stores, clubs, and supply chain facilities. Focused on advancing affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions, the team drives initiatives in renewable energy deployment, energy management, and regulatory compliance. By leveraging advanced analytics and market strategies, they build a modern energy platform that supports operational resilience and long-term value. The team collaborates across functions to implement energy-saving programs and sustainability strategies, ensuring Walmart’s energy practices align with evolving market demands and legislation.
What you'll do...
- Portfolio Strategy: Lead enterprise electricity and natural gas strategy across deregulated markets, integrating supply contracts, PPAs, onsite generation, and storage into a unified cost, risk, and resiliency framework.
- Risk & Hedging: Establish disciplined hedging guardrails, exposure monitoring, and scenario modeling aligned with enterprise risk tolerance and financial objectives.
- Competitive Procurement: Execute RFPs and structure supply strategies (fixed, block-and-index, etc.), overseeing retail providers to ensure cost leadership and performance.
- Data/Analytics: Embed advanced analytics, forecasting, and AI into procurement and optimization decisions.
- Asset & Market Integration: Optimize distributed energy resources and market participation (demand response, ancillary services, VPPs) to reduce volatility, lower costs, and enhance resilience.
What you'll bring:
- Deep understanding of ISO market structures (ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO, MISO, etc.).
- Experience structuring hedging strategies, PPAs, block-and-index supply agreements, and other complex energy contracts.
- Strong quantitative background with expertise in portfolio modeling, risk analytics, and financial analysis.
- Experience leveraging advanced analytics, forecasting tools, or AI-enabled platforms preferred.
- Proven ability to translate complex market dynamics into clear executive-level recommendations.
- Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills in a matrixed organization.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field and 5 years’ experience in utility operations or related area OR 7 years’ experience in utility operations or related area.
1 year’s supervisory experience.
