About the Team
Walmart’s Omni strategy connects in-store, online, and mobile shopping into one seamless customer experience. By using the proximity of physical stores to enable fast pickup and delivery, the platform powers services such as curbside pickup and in some markets in-home delivery. This engineering team builds and maintains the backend systems that drive replenishment and inventory flow across both Walmart and Sam’s Club. The group partners closely with merchants, suppliers, and product teams to ensure products are available where and when customers need them. The work blends large-scale data engineering with real business impact, making the team a critical part of Walmart’s omnichannel “superpower.” About the Role:The Senior Software Engineer - Backend will lead small engineering groups and design, develop, and maintain scalable backend and data-driven systems that support replenishment and omnichannel inventory platforms. This role is heavily backend focused with strong collaboration across technical and business partners. What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices that support replenishment and inventory platforms
- Develop validation and input engines that power automated replenishment decisions
- Own end-to-end delivery from design through deployment, monitoring, and optimization
- Translate product and business requirements into technical solutions
- Collaborate with merchants, suppliers, and cross-functional partners to align technical outcomes with business needs
- Lead small groups of engineers or initiatives and provide mentorship to junior team members
- Monitor application performance and conduct root cause analysis for system issues
- Contribute to architecture reviews and continuous improvement of engineering practices
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of backend or data-focused software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin
- Experience building distributed systems or large-scale data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP
- Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL database design and performance
- Experience with messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka
- Ability to design scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Thrive in fast-paced environments and show curiosity and a drive to continuously learn
- Have experience with large-scale retail, supply chain, or replenishment systems
- Enjoy mentoring others and elevating the technical strength of your team
- Are passionate about building cloud-native and data-intensive systems that solve real-world problems at scale
- Have experience delivering high-impact projects in a global enterprise environment

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
