Role summary:As a Senior Data Scientist of the In-Club AI team, you will reimagine the future of retail operations by building next-generation machine learning and agentic AI systems. You won't just build models that predict; you will design intelligent agents that reason, adapt, and act in real time. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic innovation, allowing you to deploy solutions that scale across the enterprise, optimize club efficiency, and fundamentally transform the member and associate experience through patent-worthy innovation.

The In-Club AI team at Applied AI Labs is the innovation engine transforming Sam’s Club operations. We are a group of builders and researchers dedicated to moving beyond traditional predictive modeling toward Agentic AI and GenAI systems that operate in real time. We don’t just solve isolated problems; we create reusable AI frameworks that scale enterprise-wide. We are obsessed with redesigning the club experience, empowering associates with intelligent tools, and driving measurable value through safety-conscious, cutting-edge technology.
What you'll do:
- Invent the Future: Design intelligent systems that optimize inventory, production, and daily workflows.
- Build Agentic AI: Develop and scale GenAI agents capable of reasoning, orchestration, and real-time adaptation.
- Drive Impact: Deploy solutions across hundreds of clubs to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Create Frameworks: Build reusable AI utilities that fuel innovation across the enterprise.
- Lead & Mentor: Shape the next generation of data scientists while ensuring safe, ethical AI practices.
What you'll bring:
- Core Expertise: Strong background in ML, statistical modeling, deep learning, and causal inference.
- GenAI Skills: Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and agent frameworks.
- Engineering Excellence: Proficiency in Python, SQL, and distributed cloud platforms.
- Systems Thinking: Ability to design and scale complex ML pipelines in production.
- Innovation Mindset: A passion for pushing boundaries, evidenced by patents or unique applications.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor teams and set technical standards.
The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
