Position Summary...
As Senior Director, Marketing Planning and Strategy, you and your team will lead the development and execution of Walmart’s marketing strategy for two critical business units of Marketplace and Consumables, driving incremental GMV, consideration, and engagement. This high-impact role will shape the strategic marketing roadmap, guide cross-functional planning, and ensure effective activation with enterprise priorities, including the Customer Value Proposition (CVP) initiative. You will operate at the intersection of marketing, analytics, business strategy, and execution—delivering measurable results and elevating Walmart’s brand relevance.About the Team
The Marketing Planning & Strategy team translates Walmart’s business goals and customer data and insights into actionable marketing strategies and plans. We collaborate across the company—including Merchandising, eCommerce, Finance and within Marketing —to develop integrated strategies that drive customer relevance and business value. What you'll do...
- Lead marketing strategy for Marketplace & Consumables: Partner with EVP and SVP leaders and build and execute long-term marketing plans aligned to Walmart’s growth priorities, leveraging customer insights, market trends, and P&L understanding to inform strategy.
- Drive integrated planning across CVP initiative: Partner with leaders and cross-functional teams across Merchandising, Site, and eComm to develop cohesive marketing strategies and actions to deliver this enterprise initiative.
- Guide performance optimization: Use data and analytics to evaluate marketing effectiveness, identify opportunities, and refine strategies for greater impact.
- Support customer growth and retention: Develop initiatives that enhance engagement, loyalty, and lifetime value for Marketplace and Consumables customers.
- Manage executive communications: Present strategic plans and performance updates, results to senior business leadership and key stakeholders.
- Enable cross-functional execution: Align teams to ensure seamless delivery of marketing programs.
- Build and lead a high-performing team: Lead a team of 5 (with potential expansion to 7-8), including directors, senior managers and managers. Recruit, develop, and mentor talent in marketing strategy, planning, and analytics.
- Understand key metrics for each business unit and respective marketing campaigns, and initiatives, with a focus on ROI and incremental growth.
- Understand and deliver measurable improvements in campaign performance and return on investment leveraging data and analytics and measurement models including MMM, ROAS, LTA, MTA.
- Strategic Alignment – Ensure marketing plans align with enterprise priorities, SBU, customer and business outcomes.
- 15+ years of experience in marketing strategy, planning, or retail roles, ideally within large-scale consumer or retail organizations.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional planning and deliver marketing strategies with significant business impact.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, including experience with P&Ls, ROI modeling, data, insights & analysis, and performance measurement.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience influencing without direct authority and presenting to executive leadership.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and lead complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in retail and consumer products; Marketplace and eCommerce expertise strongly preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field and 4 years' experience in marketing or related field OR 7 years'experience in marketing or related field.
