This is a newly created leadership role in our Catalog & Merchandising organization within Merchandise Transformation, owning key tools and experiences that interact with the catalog. As the Group Director of Technical Program Management for item and fashion tools, you will blend business strategy, product vision, and technical execution to modernize how Walmart manages item data. In this role, you’ll start by stabilizing and streamlining fragmented legacy processes, then drive transformational improvements – introducing automation, intuitive user experiences, and advanced analytics that elevate merchant productivity and data quality. This “swiss army knife” position demands fluency in business, technology, and product management, as you orchestrate cross-functional efforts to deliver measurable outcomes for Walmart’s Merchandising modernization. What you'll do...
Own the end-to-end vision and execution for a portfolio of merchant-facing tools and platforms – including Fashion category planning tools, first-party item setup & editing services, advanced merchandising analytics, and related offshore support processes. Deliver intuitive, high-quality experiences that improve merchant productivity and ensure item data accuracy.
Serve as the accountable business and technology leader, working across product, engineering, data science, UX, and operations teams. Translate high-level merchandising goals into clear technical requirements and orchestrate execution at scale, ensuring solutions meet business needs.
Establish and track north-star metrics (e.g. user adoption, process cycle time, data defect rates, automation hours saved) and develop executive dashboards that connect program progress to business outcomes and P&L impact.
Lead rigorous program governance for large cross-functional initiatives – defining scope, milestones, resourcing, risk management, communications, OKRs, and post-launch measurement to ensure on-time, on-value delivery.
Champion platform modernization & automation, leveraging emerging technologies (AI/ML, workflow orchestration, data quality services) to eliminate manual work, enhance data integrity, and unlock new insights for merchants.
Drive change management and user adoption, partnering closely with Merchandising, Item Operations, Supplier Enablement, and Training teams to roll out new tools. Develop training programs, gather feedback, and iterate quickly to maximize uptake and success.
Build and develop a high-performing team (managers, ICs, and vendor partners), fostering a culture of ownership, customer obsession, and continuous improvement. Mentor and empower your team to execute effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Influence senior leadership by crafting data-backed narratives and business cases. Secure alignment and investment from executive stakeholders across Merchandising, Global Tech, Supply Chain, and Finance by clearly articulating the vision, value, and progress of your programs.
You’ll make an impact by...
You have 15+ years of experience leading large-scale technical programs or product portfolios that meld business strategy with deep technical execution – preferably in retail, e-commerce, or supply chain technology.
You bring a proven track record of owning complex, cross-domain toolsets (e.g. catalog or item lifecycle systems, merchandising/planning tools, or analytics platforms) and delivering iterative improvements that delight users and drive measurable business results.
You’re a data-driven storyteller – adept at framing problems with insights, defining clear success metrics, and guiding executives and teams through vision, trade-offs, and progress using compelling, factual narratives.
You excel at building and mentoring teams, creating clarity in ambiguous spaces, and influencing without authority across product, engineering, and business functions. You cultivate collaboration and can navigate organizational complexity to get things done.
You have expertise in Agile and iterative delivery, portfolio management, and modern cloud architectures. You’re equally comfortable discussing high-level strategy and diving into technical details – whether it’s reviewing APIs and data models or refining UX workflows – to ensure outcomes are achieved.
