The Opportunity

Endless opportunities abound at the Fortune 1 Company to jump start your post-college career via the summer internship in the Accounting & Finance Development Program (AFDP). We are searching for exceptional students with leadership potential for our highly developmental internship that has the opportunity to result in a full-time position in our rigorous two-year rotational program upon graduation. Each year, only the top candidates are selected to receive an invitation to join the AFDP and launch their career in an accelerated development program that places their career on a fast track at the world’s largest retailer.

The AFDP has two distinct tracks:

  • Finance & Strategy Track: As an intern, finance track participants will be placed in a Commercial Finance team supporting areas such as Strategy, Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, Real Estate, and Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A). Full-time AFDPs will complete at least three of four 6-month rotations within the Commercial Finance organization with the option to complete one 6-month rotation within Controllership or Audit.
  • Accounting Track: As an intern, accounting track participants will be placed in a Controllership or Audit team. Full-time AFDP participants will complete two 6-month rotations in Controllership and two 6-month rotations in Audit. Controllership areas include GCO (External Reporting, GIC, Consolidation) and Segment (International, Walmart US, Sam’s Club or Corporate).

Please note there are separate job postings for each track. Applicants should apply to one track ONLY. This post is for the Accounting Track.

The Internship

During the fast-paced 10-week internship, you will work on challenging and innovative, strategically relevant projects that drive our business forward and create value for our customers. You will also be immersed directly into the regular activities for one of our Commercial Finance, Controllership, or Audit teams supporting various areas of the organization, including Strategy, Operations, Merchandising, Treasury, Controller’s Office, Audit, Supply Chain, Marketing, Real Estate, and Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A) in one of our business segments: Walmart US, Sam’s Club, International, or Corporate. Through on-the-job experience, you will gain broad finance and/or accounting experience and take ownership of a project while working in a dynamic team environment. Throughout your internship, you will present to executive leadership and participate in case study workshops/competitions. Ultimately, we will invest in you to grow your skills as a finance professional: critical thinking, learning the business, exposure to today’s top executives, and mentoring all while having FUN!

The Experience

There is no substitute for feet-on-the-ground experience:

  • You will experience culture-in-action by participating in the Walmart Annual Shareholders’ Meeting and other events with Walmart associates from around the world.
  • You’ll also benefit from leadership development, professional mentorship, and technical training.
  • Finance and accounting interns have exclusive exposure to the senior Walmart leaders, including CEO/CFO-level executives.
  • Life-long relationships will be developed with other interns through company-wide events sponsored by the Corporate Intern Program and the AFDP Program Office. i.e. Community Volunteering, Distribution Center Tours, Store Tours, Community Events and our annual intern softball game against the executives. These activities allow you to learn more about Walmart and socialize with interns from across the company.

All internships are paid, with housing and relocation benefits provided.

The Requirements

Graduating in December 2025 or May 2026.

  • Your style must be forward and persuasive as you’re asked to solve real business problems with a high degree of complexity and ambiguity.
