Assistant Director of Performance

The Role

The Assistant Director of Performance is a frontline leader responsible for coaching quality, team development, and day-to-day execution across UHP’s performance programs. This role is central to the coaching environment—setting standards, developing coaches, and ensuring every training session meets the level of professionalism, structure, and intensity that UHP is known for.

This is not just a senior coach role; it is a leadership position for someone who can:

What You’ll Own

Coaching Leadership & Standards

  • Lead the day-to-day performance coaching environment
  • Ensure consistency in coaching quality, professionalism, and delivery
  • Observe sessions and provide clear, actionable feedback
  • Address student and coaching issues with urgency and ownership

You set the standard for what “right” looks like.

Coach & Graduate Assistant Development

  • Conduct regular 1:1s with Performance Coaches and Graduate Assistants (GAs)
  • Develop coaches in communication, presence, programming, and leadership
  • Identify growth opportunities and prepare coaches for increased responsibility
  • Model accountability, composure, and leadership under pressure

This role builds coaches—not just manages them.

Recruiting, Hiring & Onboarding

  • Lead Graduate Assistant recruiting (sourcing, screening, interviews, onboarding)
  • Support hiring for performance staff as needed
  • Ensure new team members integrate quickly into UHP’s standards and culture

Instruction & Curriculum Support

  • Support delivery and refinement of training modules
  • Partner with leadership on curriculum development and instructional standards
  • Contribute to career pathway development for performance staff

Operational Execution

  • Support day-to-day performance operations across cohorts
  • Act as a point of contact between leadership and coaching staff
  • Step in as needed to maintain continuity and execution

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Experience as a performance coach with leadership responsibility
  • Strong communication skills and ability to deliver direct, constructive feedback
  • High ownership, reliability, and professional maturity
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, immersive, on-site environment
  • Relevant certification (CSCS, CPT, or equivalent)

Preferred

  • Experience leading or developing coaching teams
  • Experience working with military, veteran, or high-discipline populations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or related field
  • Background in mentorship, instruction, or curriculum development
