Summary of Job Duties:
The Training Manager is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs for Razorback Transit. This position provides training for all newly hired employees and manages continuing education, refresher training, and remedial training for all employees to ensure safe, compliant, and effective public transit operations. Responsibilities include developing engaging training curricula for all aspects of public transit, including fixed-route operations, paratransit service, customer service, safety procedures, regulatory compliance, vehicle familiarization, route knowledge, and operational best practices.This position maintains all records related to driver qualification, employee training, route training, remedial instruction, and compliance documentation. The position manages and oversees the Route Training and Evaluation Program and ensures that all applicable drivers meet Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. The Training Manager may serve as or assists in the role of Behind-the-Wheel Trainer and may assist in conducting accident and incident investigations, including identifying training-related corrective actions when appropriate.
This position supports Razorback Transit leadership by monitoring training effectiveness, maintaining accurate training and qualification records, and ensuring employees are prepared to perform their duties in accordance with departmental standards, University requirements, and applicable federal and state transportation regulations. This position requires a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of the hire date.
Regular, non-disruptive, and reliable attendance is an essential job duty, as well as the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of the date of hire
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in transportation operations
- At least two years of supervisory experience
- At least two years of experience in instructor-led training
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- At least five years of experience in instructor led training
- At least five years of supervisory experience
- Proven experience working/training in a field regulated by the Federal Department of Transportation, FTA, FAA, FMCSA, or similar
- Education or background developing engaging and effective training curricula
- CPR and First Aid Instructor certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Instructional Design to create engaging and measurable outcomes. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of commercial transportation vehicles
- Knowledge of federal and state traffic laws and DOT/CDL/ELDT regulations
- Knowledge of Federal Transit Administrations Regulations
- Ability to train employees on an individual basis and in a group setting
- Comfortable and confident with public speaking and presenting
- Ability to integrate and use technology in a training environment
- Experienced and proficient with the use of technology in daily tasks and workplace operations
- Ability to perform routine tasks and to understand and follow oral and written instruction
- Ability to work independently without close supervision and to make sure tasks are completed in a timely manner
- Self-motivated, self-starting, and able to complete assigned responsibilities with minimal direction
- Ability to exercise excellent customer service skills
- Ability to be successful in a diverse working environment
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
