Summary of Job Duties:

This part-time position (24 hours per week) is an integral member of our Operations Team, dedicated to supporting the medical and mental health needs of the University of Arkansas community with regards to medical record management.

Position will maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with established policy and legal requirements. Ensure right of access and respond to requests for release of information. Analyze release requests for compliance with state and federal regulations governing the release of protected health information. Processes, records, and releases PHI in accordance with state and federal regulations, departmental policies and accreditation standards. Maintain accounting of disclosures spreadsheet. Review, upload and index paper documents (includes, but not limited to, all PWHC forms, external immunization information, lab reports, x-ray reports, external consultative reports or protected health information, etc.) into the electronic medical record via electronic fax.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year experience in a medical office setting

  • Familiarity with HIPAA/confidentiality guidelines for patient care/medical record management

  • Familiarity with medical terminology

  • Certification in health information management field, RHIT

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable State and federal privacy and security regulations (e.g. HIPAA, FERPA)

  • Must have excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to recommend, interpret and apply policies and procedures

  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

  • Proficiency with windows based computer systems to navigate electronic medical record
