The role of the Hourly Library Assistant for Agriculture, Food, and Life Sciences (AFLS) is an engaging job that gives you the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the educational experiences of students at the University of Arkansas while furthering your professional goals! The person in this role will fulfill a variety of job duties that allow them to develop a diverse portfolio of skills and utilize creativity within their daily duties.The person in this position will work closely with the Agriculture Librarian to support instruction, research services, and the promotion of the University Libraries relevant to the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences. This role contributes to the development of an intentional, growing library instruction program, promotes digital literacy and educational technologies, and raises awareness of library resources and services available to library patrons.
The Library Assistant for Agriculture, Food, and Life Sciences (AFLS) may assist in the development and assessment of instruction or workshop sessions that help students understand and apply information literacy concepts, including how to access and evaluate key resources, tools, and services. This is a collaborative role that involves working with library colleagues to provide excellent patron services, support events, and engage in project development aligned with personal interests. Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to learn about instructional design and curriculum development, competency-based education, visual thinking strategies, and information literacy. Most importantly, they will be committed to creating meaningful connections with students and faculty in the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food, and Life Sciences.
Reliable, in-person attendance and the ability to adapt to a flexible schedule is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, positive relationships as part of a team.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications:
Education in an agriculture, food, life sciences, or related field
Experience with instructional design, curriculum planning, or program development
Experience with or willingness to learn marketing, outreach, and promotion strategies for academic library services
Experience with or willingness to learn immersive technology tools (such as augmented reality (AR)/ virtual reality (VR) or data visualization) to support experiential learning
Currently enrolled in the Graduate school
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
The ability to adapt to a flexible working schedule
The ability to work independently and with team members
