Summary of Job Duties:

The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas is seeking a creative, user-centered Web Designer to join a collaborative communications and marketing team dedicated to enhancing the student experience. This role is responsible for designing and building digital solutions that are intuitive, engaging, and aligned with the university’s brand and accessibility standards.

The Web Designer will lead the design and front-end development of websites and digital tools that support Student Affairs units, with a focus on usability, accessibility, and visual storytelling. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and is passionate about designing experiences that matter to students.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least four years of professional web development experience in lieu of a degree

OR

  • At least two years professional web development experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

OR

  • At least two years of professional experience developing within the Modern Campus CMS (formerly known as Omni update)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or designing for student audiences

  • Extensive experience developing responsive and accessible web interfaces using front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and Bootstrap

  • Proven experience using design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Sketch to transform visual concepts into fully functional web layouts

  • Hands-on experience applying web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x AA) and usability best practices to create inclusive, user-centered digital experiences

  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS), preferably Modern Campus CMS or WordPress, to create and manage web content efficiently

  • Familiarity with cross-browser compatibility, responsive design frameworks, and front-end performance optimization techniques

  • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) principles and analytics tools such as Google Analytics to support performance monitoring and continuous improvement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Knowledge of SEO Principles

  • Knowledge of web standards, accessibility, and best practices

  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, accessible user experiences that meet usability and design standards

  • Strong problem-solving, collaborative, and communication skills

  • Basic project management skills

  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot front-end code and resolve design or functionality issues across browsers, devices, and platforms

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines

  • Ability to receive and deliver feedback in a constructive, growth-minded manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
