Summary of Job Duties:

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) will provide psychiatric care within the Primary Care Clinic at the Pat Walker Health Center, serving a diverse population of University of Arkansas students, faculty, and staff.
Key responsibilities include:
• Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic mental health conditions.
• Medication management.
• Health education and preventive care counseling for individual patients.
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, counselors, and laboratory staff.
• Active participation in quality improvement initiatives and professional development.

The APRN/PA will work closely with a staff psychiatrist and must follow all prescription protocols, privileging processes, and the practice standards of the Arkansas State Board.

Note: Reliable, regular, and non-disruptive attendance is essential. The ability to foster and maintain respectful and collegial working relationships is a core requirement.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited psychiatric fellowship program for advanced practice providers

  • Active licensure from the Arkansas State Board of Nursing (for APRNs) or Arkansas State Medical Board (for PAs)

  • Board certification: NCCA (for APRNs) or NCCPA (for PAs)

  • Current DEA registration

  • BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of clinical experience in a psychiatric setting

  • Prior experience working in a college health environment or with a college-age population

  • Experience in the management of substance use disorders

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Proficient in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions

  • Skilled in obtaining patient histories and providing informed consent

  • Capable of recommending diagnostic testing and specialist referrals

  • Proficient in outpatient procedures and electronic medical record (EMR) systems

  • Ability to deliver both acute and preventive care education
