Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant Grounds Shop Foreman is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing landscaping and grounds maintenance activities across campus grounds, including the operation of heavy equipment for tasks such as hauling dirt, gravel, trees, and shrubs, as well as the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. This role performs snow and ice removal during inclement weather and requires scheduled overtime, on-call availability, and responsiveness to after-hours service calls and campus emergencies. This position is the primary backup to the Grounds Shop Foreman, the Assistant Foreman, supervises a small to medium-sized groundskeeping crew by assigning tasks, demonstrating proper techniques, monitoring work quality, providing on-the-job training, and resolving job-related issues. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in landscape maintenance, crew supervision, and heavy equipment operation.This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
At least five years of experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, ground maintenance, heavy equipment, or related area
At least one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity
Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Arkansas
Preferred Qualifications:
Six years or more of experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, ground maintenance, heavy equipment, or related area
Two years or more in a supervisor capacity
One year or more of experience operating heavy equipment
Experience with large scale irrigation systems
CDL Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in landscaping and grounds maintenance
Ability to plan, organize, and direct a landscaping and grounds maintenance program
Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment
Ability to maintain records and estimate landscaping and grounds maintenance needs
Ability to supervise the work activities of subordinate employees in landscaping and grounds maintenance
Ability to learn to perform manual labor under varying working conditions
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
Experience with CMMS systems and basic understanding and usage of Microsoft office products
Additional Information:
Facilities Management provides paid CDL training to obtain the required Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for this position. The cost of testing materials is reimbursed upon the successful completion of the written and skills test for the CDL license.
