Summary of Job Duties:
The Accounting Assistant I is responsible for collections and customer support, including management of past-due payments on accounts, collaborating with collection agencies, and maintaining accurate records; examines and processes written and oral appeals submitted to the Appeals Committee. Other duties as assigned.This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Business Administration or equivalent
Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of experience in the collection of delinquent accounts
Two years of Excel experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting principles
Knowledge of contacting customers with delinquent accounts and coordinating collection efforts with the University's selected collection agencies
Knowledge of department operations, policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations
Ability to maintain collection activity records on the departmental database
Ability to code accounts to uncollectable status and sends for processing
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities, resources, and materials associated with the needs of the department or program
