Summary of Job Duties:

The Summer Orientation Assistant will serve as a member of the Walton Orientation Team for the Walton Academic Advising and Welcome Center Office. Staff will assist with welcoming new students and families, have an assigned advisor to facilitate group advising sessions for 10-15 new students, and assist with the registration process.

The Summer Orientation Assistant will assist with the implementation and evaluation of the college portion of New Student Orientation, especially with small group advising on cohort classes and registration under the supervision of Academic Advising staff; work as a paraprofessional in presenting and distributing information to new students and family members; initiate and develop open communication and interaction with students and family members attending New Student Orientation; work productively and cooperatively with all members of the University community to effectively implement the New Student Orientation program; serve as a positive role model and ambassador on behalf of the University of Arkansas and the Walton College; participate in every Walton Summer Orientation Session; perform any additional duties as assigned by the Director or as necessitated by the job.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Attended one full year (two semesters) at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville (minimum 24 credit hours)

  • At least a minimum of a 2.50 overall cumulative grade point average at the time of application

  • No student may apply for or hold a Student Aid position while on academic or disciplinary probation

  • Walton College of Business major

  • Effective interpersonal, small group, and group conflict resolution and communication skills

  • Ability to value and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and ages with a variety of personality types
