Summary of Job Duties:

This position at the University of Arkansas will enhance student retention and success through the development and implementation of innovative learning strategies. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Senior Vice Provost of Student Success and Academic Excellence to serve as a catalyst for educational transformation by fostering collaboration between faculty, academic support staff, and administration. This role requires a forward-thinking approach to identifying academic challenges and creating sustainable solutions that improve student outcomes and experiences across the Fayetteville campus.

The Assistant Director of Learning Innovation and Assessment will build strong relationships across University of Arkansas departments to create an integrated support system for students facing academic difficulties. Central to this position is close collaboration with the three teams under the Student Success umbrella: the Strategic Outreach, Assessment, and Retention (SOAR) team; the CLASS+ Team; and the Learning Innovations and Assessment Team. This individual will participate in key discussions that connect faculty teaching historically difficult classes with academic coaches, student success team members, and other campus partners to offer strategic support for struggling students. They will also serve as an instructor for designated courses while supporting the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) program through implementation and by providing guidance to participating faculty.

Beyond direct support, this role involves systematic assessment and continuous improvement of teaching and learning across the institution. The Assistant Director will conduct peer observation using Teaching and Faculty Support Center (TFSC) model, assist with the General Education Learning Outcomes (GELO) Assessment Project, and actively participate in Teaching Innovation and Pedagogical Support (TIPS) initiatives. They will assist in identifying various metrics for evaluating student success, gathering meaningful data on teaching methods and programs, and reporting outcomes to the Senior Vice Provost and other stakeholders to inform continuous improvement efforts that contribute to the University of Arkansas' retention goals and academic mission.

Regular, in-person, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others across the university.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution (discipline open) from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least three years of experience in teaching at a higher education level

  • Experience with student success initiatives at the higher education level


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited institution (discipline open) from an accredited institution of higher education

  • ACUE Certification or similar faculty development credentials

  • Demonstrated experience in leading or supporting faculty development initiatives and/or instructional improvement and/or student success initiatives at the higher education level

  • Proven track record of implementing innovative teaching strategies and improving student learning outcomes at the higher education level

  • Experience in academic coaching or academic advising at the higher education level

  • Experience conducting peer observations of teaching at the higher education level

  • Proficiency with student information systems (Workday, Starfish) and learning management tools (Blackboard)

  • Experience with assessment processes related to teaching and academic programs

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with academic advisors, faculty, and student success staff at the higher education level

$56,200 - $63,000
