Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor position to start in March 2025. This is a standard 12-month faculty appointment. We seek a candidate who entails conducting research leading to publication, engaging in creative and/or scholarly activities, mentoring and evaluating students on scientific research, creating interest and understanding among students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus an in related professional organizations, and participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus. Typical job responsibilities include participation and research productivity within a National Science Foundation Biological Integration Institute: Host-virus evolutionary dynamics, within a National Science Foundation salt manipulation project, and within an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Winter Stonefly Conservation project.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
About the Department:
The Department of Biological Sciences includes 34 tenured or tenure-track faculty members conducting research and teaching in the areas of evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics, genomics, development, cell biology, and microbiology. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate
Ph.D. or terminal degree in Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
Five or more years of post-doctoral or professional experience with expertise in freshwater biogeochemistry and ecology
Preferred Qualifications:
An active research agenda or evidence of research productivity including peer-reviewed publications and grant award success in freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry
Expertise doing analytical chemistry using a rapid-flow analyzer, mass spectrometer, inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, and a laser ablation laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer
Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students resulting in peer-reviewed publications or national science meeting presentations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Current knowledge in the field of freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry
Skilled with the use of multiple element analysis
Knowledge and expertise doing analytical chemistry using a rapid-flow analyzer, mass spectrometer, inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, and a laser ablation laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer
