Summary of Job Duties:

The Chief Business Officer IV is responsible for providing financial oversight for all resources available to Bumpers College, including, but not limited to, campus base-budget allocations, student enhancement funds, income/expense accounts, and development funds. The incumbent reports directly to the Dean of Bumpers College with indirect reporting to the Vice Provost for Planning and the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. The Chief Business Officer serves with a fiduciary duty and strategic oversight of all aspects of the College’s finances and business operations to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and statutes and supports strategic efforts through budgeting and finance, data management and benchmarking, interpretation and implementation of the University policy, procurement support, human resources planning, and other activities as required to achieve the instruction, research and service mission of the College. This position confers with and supports the Dean in developing the annual budget, while maintaining strong, positive working relationships with College departments and units.


The Chief Business Officer analyzes and makes recommendations on budget requests and plans with respect to state and university policy and provides an accurate accounting and reporting of the deployment and maintenance of the College’s financial resources and supports the data analytics efforts of the College for its accreditation, program and operations, and business optimization measures. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Responsibilities and expectations may extend beyond standard working hours and travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least five years of relevant professional experience

  • Proficiency in use and implementation of cloud-based enterprise management software

  • At least two years of experience in a supervisory role

  • Experience with written and verbal presentation of financial activity

  • Experience developing, implementing and monitoring budgets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, accounting or a related field

  • Successful completion of a CPA certification or similar professional certificate

  • At least four years financial planning and analysis experience and experience managing financial operations, accounting, budget, and reporting function in a post-secondary higher education

  • Proficiency in use and implementation of Workday enterprise management software

  • At least ten years of relevant professional experience

  • Awareness and understanding of position budgets and other resources shared with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture

  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff

  • Strong understanding of the higher education landscape, challenges, and opportunities

  • Experience in building and fostering interpersonal relationships

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software and systems

  • Change management and workflow transitions skills
