Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas Youth Programs Coordinator is a member of the School of Law, Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI) team. The position is responsible for the development, execution, and management of youth programs and activities targeting Indigenous youth ages 18 to 24 including the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative Native Youth Summit held annually each summer. The Youth Programs Coordinator will oversee programs for youth emphasizing development in agriculture, policy work, business development, economic enterprise, and Indigenous food systems in compliance with the rules regulations policies and procedures of the University. The Youth Programs Coordinator will collaboratively evaluate program effectiveness recommend changes and implement management decisions. The position will require the maintenance of relevant curriculum in line with community standards and overseas short and long term planning including but not limited to the Native Youth Summit coordination with partner organizations recruiting selection and acting as a liaison between youth, IFAI and external stakeholders. The Youth Programs Coordinator will work with youth, tribal governments, intertribal organizations, and collaboratively with colleagues at IFAI and throughout the campus.

This position reports to and is evaluated by the Next Generation Program Director. This position involves some travel long distances by air or vehicle on behalf of IFAI for various events and requires representation of IFAI and the University of Arkansas in public and private settings.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in agriculture leadership, secondary education, Native American studies, or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Experience working with Native American populations or youth populations

  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to become First Aid and CPR certified

  • Experience in event programming and coordination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years or more experience working with Native American populations or youth populations

  • Experience working with Native American youth ages 18 to 24

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of MS office applications including word, Excel, Outlook and Teams

  • Good interpersonal and public speaking skills

  • Patience and flexibility while working in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to find solutions to issues facing Native youth

  • Ability to speak effectively one on one in small groups or in large groups across a variety of formats including in person settings and virtual presentations

  • Ability to complete University training on the use of golf carts on campus

  • Ability to work effectively and enthusiastically with youth, their parents and family, community and tribal partners, and the IFAI team

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
