Summary of Job Duties:

The Senior Director for Student Affairs Communications & Marketing is a dynamic and strategic leadership role responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive communication and marketing strategy for the Division of Student Affairs to enhance the visibility, reputation, and engagement of the division among a variety of stakeholders. This position will oversee project planning and management for a new Division of Student Affairs’ shared services team of communications and marketing staff. The Director is responsible for providing and implementing a vision for division wide strategy and brand, cultivating partnerships in and outside the division, serving as division liaison to University Relations, and responding to media requests. This position reports to the Sr. Advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and works closely with the Vice Chancellor and other division leaders to advance division communication goals and priorities, while working to align those efforts with the university’s larger communications goals.

The Senior Director oversees the division’s many communications efforts, aimed at a variety of audiences (current students, prospective students, family members, campus partners, alumni, donors, etc.), but also takes a lead role in developing key division messaging including but not limited to Arkansas News stories, website content, social media, videos, email updates, annual reports, drafting statements and other executive messages, and answers to media inquiries.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least four years of professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, writing and editing, creative writing, and/or related fields

  • Demonstrated experience in developing comprehensive strategic communication plans

Applicable equivalencies may be considered for the above qualifications.

  • Supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least six years of progressive, professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, writing and editing, creative writing, and/or related fields

  • Experience in higher education and student affairs

  • Demonstrated experience in leveraging digital platforms and emerging technologies to enhance engagement and reach target audiences

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment

  • Experience with paid, owned, and earned media

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of higher education institutions and student affairs operations

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures

  • Knowledge of fiscal operations and ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements for budget oversight

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs

  • Knowledge of a variety of marketing/communication skills including photography, videography, media relations, graphic design

  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education communications/marketing

  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community members

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to create synergy and collaboration

  • Ability to serve as a visionary leader to a large team

  • Ability to inspire a shared vision amongst a team

  • Ability to develop and execute strategic communication and marketing plans that support organizational objectives.

  • Ability to manage crises

  • Ability to utilize analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of communication and marketing efforts, making data-driven decisions to optimize strategies


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.


Salary Information:

$75,000 - $85,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
