Summary of Job Duties:

The Teaching Assistant Professor is a 12-month, non-tenure track position (100% appointed) that will support the undergraduate Biological Engineering program in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate will teach selected undergraduate and graduate Biological Engineering courses, provide support in student recruiting, serve as a liaison with the Freshman Engineering Program, advise undergraduates, co-advise student clubs, and assist with processes for ABET accreditation of the undergraduate program. The successful candidate’s teaching, research, extension and/or industry experience should complement and enhance the existing biological engineering academic programs, curriculum and department strengths in sustainable water, energy and food systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach up to 6 undergraduate courses per year and potentially one graduate Biological Engineering course per year; Advise undergraduate students as assigned; Develop new Biological Engineering courses and student learning experiences as needs arise; Assist with class fieldtrips and maintenance of teaching labs; Facilitate undergraduate involvement in faculty research programs and/or internships; Serve as a liaison with the Freshman Engineering Program and the College of Engineering to support departmental recruiting efforts; Provide proactive leadership to the Biological Engineering Student Club


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in one of the following engineering disciplines: Biological, Bio‐systems, Agricultural, Ecological, Environmental engineering, or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment

  • Experience in teaching, research and service

  • Experience in extension and/or industry in the sustainable management of water, energy and food systems.

  • PE license or the ability to become licensed within five years of beginning work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams; both internal and external to the Department

  • Experience with computer software and modeling relevant to Biological Engineering academic programs

  • Demonstrated record of effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Commitment to enhance the existing teaching programs

  • Effectiveness in recruiting students for Biological Engineering

  • Teaching experience Food and Bio-Product Systems Engineering, Biological Engineering Methods, and Global Bio Energy Engineering among others

  • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others
