Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Evolutionary Biology to start August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

We seek candidates whose research addresses significant questions in evolutionary biology, broadly defined. Candidates whose research programs complement current research areas in the department are particularly encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in evolutionary biology, or a related field, and demonstrated research accomplishments are expected, as is postdoctoral experience. Successful candidates are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program, contribute to graduate and undergraduate education, including teaching our core undergraduate Evolution course, and participate in service activities.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department:
The Department of Biological Sciences includes 34 tenured or tenure-track faculty members conducting research and teaching in the areas of evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics, genomics, development, cell biology, and microbiology. Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate

  • PhD in Evolutionary Biology or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment

  • Postdoctoral experience

  • Demonstrated research accomplishments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Commitment to building a scholarly environment through teaching, mentoring, research, outreach, and service

  • Strong national/international record of successful publication and funding in the thematic and/or methodological areas described in the job summary

  • Commitment to, or experience in, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research

  • Strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations
