Summary of Job Duties:
The program manager will be responsible for the AFIC@MCO NWA GLEAN program operations and report to the Executive Director of the AFIC@MCO within the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. The Program Manager will oversee volunteer coordination, partner engagement, and efficient distribution of freshly gleaned produce or the conversion into longer shelf-life value-added products. Specific responsibilities will include:
1. Program Development and Coordination:
• Develop and execute a comprehensive gleaning program in Northwest Arkansas with support from the Arkansas Gleaning Project.
• Coordinate with local farms, volunteers, and partner organizations to map out gleaning sites and ensure efficient harvesting and distribution of produce.
• Oversee the procurement of essential equipment and supplies for gleaning activities.
• Develop and implement strategies for converting excess or ugly gleaned produce into value-added products for long-term storage.
2. Volunteer Management:
• Recruit, train, and retain volunteers for gleaning activities, ensuring they are equipped and prepared for efficient harvesting.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, providing ongoing support and addressing any issues or concerns.
3. Partnership and Community Engagement:
• Establish relationships with local community organizations, farms, and food distribution sites to support the gleaning program.
• Collaborate with the NWA Food Bank, Center for Arkansas Farms and Food, Spring Creek Food Hub, and other partners to ensure the effective distribution of gleaned produce.
4. Operational Oversight:
• Work closely with the AFIC@MCO Culinary Manager to develop recipes and production formulas for value-added products from gleaned produce.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and best practices in all gleaning and processing activities.
• Monitor and evaluate the gleaning program's performance, collecting data on the volume of produce harvested, volunteer hours, and distribution outcomes.
5. Grant Management and Reporting:
• Manage the NWA GLEAN grant budget, ensuring funds are appropriately allocated and expenses tracked accurately.
• Prepare and submit regular progress reports to grant funders, highlighting the program's key achievements, challenges, and impacts.
• Find, co-write, and support grant applications that further the mission of the AFIC@MCO and UADA gleaning program.
Qualifications:
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public health, agriculture, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in program management, community engagement, or a related role.
- Demonstrated experience in volunteer coordination and partnership development.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
- Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in the food industry, security initiatives, or agricultural programs.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Experience in grant writing and reporting.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- This position will be based in Northwest Arkansas, requiring travel to various project sites, some overnight, and work outside of regular office hours, as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication, cooperation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of the food industry, including current trends, regulations, and market dynamics.
