Summary of Job Duties:
The mission of the Office of International Students and Scholars (ISS) is to strengthen the University of Arkansas as an active member of the international community. The Outreach Team is responsible for the International Culture Team (ICT), iFriend Program and International Education Week Promotion. ICT is a program sponsored by ISS to bring the world to the U of A campus and Northwest Arkansas community through cultural presentations, performances, and demonstrations for children, students, and adults. The Outreach GA’s primary responsibility will be to assist the Outreach team leader with this team, and when needed, assist with iFriend events.Key duties of the ICT GA include
Scheduling
• Schedule training events for new ICT members
• Schedule rooms/spaces for events
• Schedule ICT events
• Contact students to participate in these events
• Schedule meetings to prepare students for events
Event Planning
• Work with UA students, scholars, faculty, staff, and campus and community organizations with their unique request for a cultural program
• Plan monthly International Culture Team meetings with student leaders and staff
• Plan campus or community events with team members and/or other offices for collaboration
Transportation
• Transport supplies for events around and off campus
• Shop for materials and supplies to support upcoming events
Office Tasks
• Keep current with email correspondence
• Track programs and student participation in ictevents.uark.edu
• Follow up with new students on the team, and invite them to training and events
• Compile evaluations of events
• Design promotional materials
• Produce creative Power Points
• Promote programs in various venues
• Assist with team organization of office space, pantry, cultural & catering items
• Check in and out cultural and catering items
• Assist with social media for team account
Leadership/Training
• Plan and lead training events such as New Member Training I & II
• Follow up after events to evaluate effectiveness of the events
• Give feedback to presenters after events to encourage and improve presentation skills
• Work with ICT Core and volunteer
Other
• Team recruitment online, in person, and at events
• Assist iFriend Coordinator with larger programs during new student orientation, iFriend receptions, and quarterly events.
• Assist with the tracking and management of volunteers
All graduate assistants must earn at least a 2.85 grade point average on all courses taken for graduate credit each semester of appointment, though departments and programs may have higher grade point average requirements.
Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have an earned bachelor's from an accredited institution
Must be admitted to a graduate school program at the University of Arkansas
Requirements of Outreach Assistant Applicants
Be admitted to and planning to enroll in at least 3 credit hours 2nd Summer term or 6 credit hours in a graduate degree program at the University of Arkansas for the Fall 2024 semester.
Have authorization to be employed in the United States up to 20 hours per week
Have a flexible schedule and availability to work events in the evenings and on weekends
Flexible work hours to meet students, attend, assist, or coordinate events. These hours can include weekends, mornings, afternoons and Thursday and/or Friday afternoons & evenings
Experience organizing/coordinating events
Have computer skills in a PC environment using Microsoft Office and Adobe software
Possess intercultural communication skills to be able to work with students from a variety of different countries and cultural backgrounds
Must enjoy a fast-paced work environment
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching and training
Ability to promote programs and events through social media and print media
Experience organizing/coordinating programs
Ability to work in a team environment
Leadership experience
Cross-cultural experience such as living or studying in a country other than your home country.

Salary Information:
Masters: $16,000 per year
MFA: $19,096 per year
Ph.D. : $19,096 per year
